Shots were fired towards IDF soldiers patrolling the Gaza border Sunday, hitting an Israeli Defense Forces vehicle but causing no injuries, the army said.
“A short while ago shots were fired & hit an #IDF vehicle on the border with southern #Gaza. No injuries reported,” IDF Spokesman Peter Lerner tweeted.
A short while later, the IDF responded with tank fire on Hamas targets in the southern Gaza Strip. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The Kerem Shalom crossing was also closed temporarily while the army assessed the situation.
Instances of cross-border fire occur sporadically, but the region has been fairly quiet in recent months.
